As part of Cascade’s Commercial Painting Services in greater Portland we have painted a number of whiteboards for various businesses and organizations. We did a number of them for PSU and also for Alliant Systems offices downtown…

The most commonly used paint is Rustoleum’s Professional Dry Erase.  Its a 2 part paint that you mix together before painting.  The walls need to be as flat as you can get them and you need to paint at least 2 coats.  The coating works well and is one of the least expensive options out there. (some dry erase paints get very spendy).  Eventually, after a lot of use,  the dry erase writing doesn’t come completely off but recoating at that time is easy and inexpensive.

The best whiteboard surfaces are the large boards that you purchase because walls, no matter what you do, will be rougher than the factory finish. One alternative is to use a whiteboard wall covering.  Cascade installed one for BMWC Constructors in Portland.  It was called Opti-Rite and it was 4 feet wide which we cut to 20 feet long.  (Photo below)
